  • The rooftop itself: What is the roof material (metal deck, concrete, membrane)? What is its pitch? Are there skylights, parapet walls, or fragile surfaces? A metal roof in the summer heat requires different anchorage solutions than a flat concrete roof. The structure dictates everything.

  • Mistaking fall restraint for fall arrest: A restraint system (like a short lanyard) prevents a worker from reaching a fall hazard. A fall arrest system is designed to stop them during a fall. Using a restraint system where arrest is needed is a deadly error. 
  • The “one-size-fits-all” anchorage: Using a single, poorly rated anchorage point for multiple workers or for tasks it wasn’t designed for is a massive risk. Every application needs a specifically calculated anchorage. 
  • Ignoring rescue planning: The job isn’t over once a fall is arrested. A worker left suspended in a harness can suffer from suspension trauma within minutes. Your fall protection equipment plan is incomplete without a prompt rescue plan.
